Coffee Review: 91 points

Blind Assessment:
Fruit-forward, sweetly tart. Green apple, lemon kefir, amber, cocoa powder, fir in aroma and cup. Tart, gently drying acidity; full, creamy mouthfeel. Crisp, cocoa-driven finish supported by notes of green apple and amber.

Notes:
Produced by smallholding farmers, entirely of the Bourbon variety of Arabica, and processed by the anaerobic natural method, in which the whole fruit is fermented in tanks with limited oxygen before drying, also in the whole fruit. Based in Livingston, Montana, RamsHead Coffee Roasters is a family-owned company that specializes in direct trade microlot coffees. For more information, visit www.ramsheadcoffee.com.

Bottom Line:
A paradoxically tart and chocolaty anaerobic Rwanda with an especially full body and an intriguing amber-like nose that carries throughout the cup.

This is a complex cup with a wide range of flavors. The vibrant flavors and aromas of the blackberry and red currant hit your nose while brewing, while a wonderful mixtures of pineapple, peach, and tropical fruit mesh together in every sip.  There is also a surprise appearance of green apple tasting notes with a syrupy finish as the coffee cools.

The primary goal of Muhororo is to deliver extremely high quality coffee to you, while investing in the local community and social development projects. By providing work at the washing station, cash advances on coffee, covering education costs, healthcare costs and even contributing to farmers' weddings, the Muhororo station is constantly giving back to their community. The next goal is to construct a daycare facility at the Muhororo station to provide a safe place for children while their parents are occupied with demanding harvest and processing work. The space will also provide basic healthcare services and education. There is also a plan to further economic development through livestock. By purchasing and donating pigs, the animals can yield two piglets each year to be redistributed in the community. In addition to social and economic programs, Muhororo Coffee gives 4,000 new coffee trees to local growers each year and facilitates training on sustainable and environmentally friendly farming in coordination with the Rwanda National Agricultural Export Development Board. These training include important topics such as land conservation and erosion prevention.

Tasting Notes:

Fragrance and aroma of blackberry and red currant which follow into the pineapple and peach flavor notes. Aftertaste of green grape, tropical fruits and green apple. Bright malic acidity and a medium body with syrupy mouthfeel.
