COFFEE REVIEW 92 points:

Blind Assessment: Deep-toned, cocoa-driven. Cocoa powder, golden raisin, molasses, magnolia, fresh-cut fir in aroma and cup. Sweet-toned in structure with brisk acidity; velvety-smooth mouthfeel. The crisp, cocoa-toned finish is supported by notes of magnolia and fresh-cut fir.

Notes: Produced at La Virgen Farms entirely of the Caturra variety of Arabica and processed by the washed method (fruit skin and flesh are removed before drying). RamsHead Coffee Roasters is a family-owned company founded by Bozeman, Montana natives Caleb and Laura Walker. RamsHead specializes in direct trade microlot coffees. The Bottom Line : A straight-ahead washed Colombia cup with sweet fruit and flowers throughout and undertones of aromatic wood.

La Virgen is a Caturra offering sourced from two of our finest farms in the Liboriana Valley, just outside of the town Salgar. La Virgen 1 and 2 are home to several lots of Caturra trees in peak productivity. They are 55 and 54 hectares in size and sit on a large mountainside at elevations between 1540 - 2040 m.a.s.l. The farms were originally one large estate, but a family dispute generations ago divided the land into two distinct farms. Two mayordomos, Felipe Madrid and Elkin León, continue managing each farm separately, however the agronomic technicians analyze both farms together and work with the mayordomos to maximize quality.

La Virgen hosts several reforestation projects aiming to increase biodiversity. The first step is protecting water sources by planting additional vegetation around natural springs that act as natural filtration systems. The second stage of our project is to plant native shrubs and trees within protected forest corridors that are home to local flora and fauna. This helps strengthen the local ecosystem and protects against erosion and the depletion of soil’s nutrients.
